How much wallpaper do I need?

It may seem like a daunting task to calculate how many rolls of wallpaper you need to cover your walls but it really is an easy process. We have made it as simple as possible by creating a wallpaper calculator which appears for each and every product.  This will allow you to input your height and width of the walls and the calculator will take care of the rest.

Easy ways to measure your wall:

  • Use a tape measure to measure the width and height of each wall (from skirting to cornice) to the nearest centimeter.
  • Use these measurements to work out how many rolls of wallpaper by following the guide below.

Here is a quick example:

Let’s say you have a feature wall measuring 4.6m wide and it’s 2.6m high.

You can simply multiply the two measurements: 4.6m x 2.6m = 11.96m2 (square meters)

This will give you the total square meter coverage of the area you wish to wallpaper.

Take the 11.96m2 and divide it by 5m2 (one roll of wallpaper will generally cover roughly 5m2)

This will then give you the total number of rolls you will need: 11.96m2 divided by 5m2 = 2.39 rolls.

Wallpapers are always sold per roll, so you will need to round up and purchase 3 rolls to cover this size area.

Most wallpaper designs have a pattern match so it is always best to measure for an extra 10% waste.  It may seem tempting to remove any doors and windows from measurements but by leaving these in you can almost guarantee that you will have enough wallpaper for the project. There really is nothing worse than running short mid installation.

Just like every room is different, the same applies to wallpaper designs.
